How I Plan My Day as a Business Owner
As a fellow business owner, I'm all too familiar with the constant juggling act of tasks, projects, and deadlines, not to mention the every day life tasks such as grocery shopping and laundry. The feeling of overwhelm can set in quickly. Today I wanted to give you a peek behind the curtain and share how I approach planning my workdays so that it all feels a bit more manageable.
- Brain Dump:
First of all, I love to sit down with a cup of coffee in hand and start my days by jotting down every task that come to mind. There's a certain magic in putting pen to paper. Making a physical list helps to clear my mind by transferring everything that is swirling in my head to a concrete list I can see and refer to.
- Top 3 Priorities:
Next, I carefully select my 'Top 3 Priorities' for the day from this braindump list. This practice ensures that my focus and energy are directed towards what truly matters. Selecting my top 3 priorities allows me to stay centered on the most important tasks and reduce the sense of overwhelm that can go hand in hand with a lengthy to-do list.
- Timeblocking:
After I decide on my top 3 tasks, I then utilize 'Timeblocking' to assign specific blocks of time in my day to working on these top priorities. This practice helps me feel less anxious throughout the day as I know I am working on "what I'm supposed to" at that given time and therefore not worrying about the other tasks on my plate. Timeblocking provides a structured framework that helps me stay focused throughout my day.
- Treat Yourself:
This is a step that can often get overlooked but I find to be very motivating! After you complete one of your top priorities, celebrate with a small rest break or treat yourself to a little reward. These rewards don't need to be elaborate. It could be as simple as making yourself a fresh cup of coffee, a few minutes of light reading, a walk outside, or even a few moments for meditation. Switching to an activity that is unrelated to what you have been doing helps the mind recharge and will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the next item on your list.
This is a method I've been using for years and because I love it so much I was actually inspired to create an entire notepad in my product line based upon this routine. It's called the Daily Overview Notepad if you're looking for a simple yet effective way to plan your days!
Thanks so much for following along! Wishing you a week filled with focused and intentional work!
